Our approach to data warehouse design is a radical departure from those offered by our competitors. While most focus on simply taking your existing data requirements and making your reports or data loads faster, ours is a holistic integration of business and technology. One that maximizes business benefits, provides a flexible and maintainable foundation for the future, and addresses technical issues effectively.
Datric consultants have years of industry, business and technical experience gained in complex, global environments - not just data warehousing. Our teams anticipate and plan for the needs of tomorrow, not just for the technical problem of the day. Datric consultants will work with you to address complete data management solutions at all levels including design, implementation, operation and performance tuning.
The reports, analytics and new revelations that help manage and increase business can only be obtained with accurate and consistent data. Many factors impact the value of data from master data consistency and hierarchies to granularity and age. Datric can negotiate the maze of variables to insure success at a price you can afford. A Datric-designed data warehouse allows you the flexibility to ask new questions, take different perspectives on your data, and bring together facts and figures in ways limited only by imagination.
Datric's innovative product for data migration and management projects is Agile Data Suite (ADS). With built in project management, GUI-based mapping, pre-defined content, data validations and many other features, work effort and time to delivery is dramatically reduced. For more information on ADS, please see Agile Data Suite (ADS).

Data Warehouse Cost Management
Accurate information has never been in greater demand. The number of users and reports, report complexity, data granularity and data volume continue to grow at astounding rates. Business requirements for both analytics and regulatory compliance increase each year while larger and larger data loads strain the existing architecture. IT/IS budgets rarely keep pace with the increasing demands.
Companies with distributed or federated data marts can find themselves with complex environments, high operational costs, increasing maintenance fees and inaccurate, non-supportable data. Consolidating Data Marts to an enterprise data warehouse (EDW), while a reasonable approach, can be difficult, expensive and time-consuming. Once installed, a traditional EDW can be surprisingly expensive to maintain and expand. With the growth and popularity of data warehouse appliances, the approaches have become more numerous and more complex.
Datric understands the approaches, challenges and solutions. With our team of experienced consultants, we can design the right plan for your individual needs and budget. Our approach is based on pragmatic common sense, not wholesale replacement. With our teams, we can:
- Increase the efficiency of existing data warehouse components to manage upgrades
- Design and implement decommission strategies for effective cost savings
- Analyze your requirements and recommend the best data warehouse appliance for your business
- Analyze, design and implement alternative strategies for existing hardware, software and data models
- Define data value by linking requirements to business goals for accurate budgeting
- Design and implement data management programs (profiling, cleansing, standards) to reduce data loads while increasing accuracy
- Design and implement phased changes and migrations for cost containment
- Design and implement the right balance between data marts and EDW

EDW Architecture and Design
A well-designed enterprise data warehouses is a requirement for a successful, industry-leading business. As businesses evolve from simple data marts and limited data, the importance of architecture and design becomes paramount. Data volume and granularity, load windows, master data management strategies, enterprise standards and business goals and drivers all contribute to a successful design. Architecture is more than a technical exercise - it must consider and integrate business, technical and operational aspects to be a cost-effective solution.
Datric understands this complex and multi-faceted environment and can design solutions that:
- Simplify your infrastructure and applications environment
- Meet your requirements for speed and performance
- Ensure a sustainable and cost-effective operations model
- Deliver usable functionality quickly through phased implementation

Data Acquisition and Management
Data acquisition and management is a complex discipline that few consulting companies do well. With compliance initiatives like Sarbanes-Oxley it is more critical than ever to understand how you collect data and how data from different systems relate. A poorly implemented acquisition and management strategy now carries legal penalties, not just business inefficiencies and data errors that drive up operational costs.
Datric has proven tools and methodologies to address these new legal requirements as well as the traditional problems of data management. With our solutions, we can rapidly deliver a sound strategy and help you:
- Create enterprise standard terms and definitions to create a 'common language'
- Create reports and analytics such as data lineage and an enterprise glossary
- Efficiently map data between systems and models without the use of spreadsheets
- Design extract, transform and load (ETL) and service-oriented architecture (SOA) rules

Analytical Application Development
Leading corporations are looking beyond the standard operational reports of the past. They are actively looking for new capabilities and advantages in their data. While there are multiple business intelligence (BI) tools available, the problem is generally not in the technology but in the way the data is structured and used.
More companies are compiling data in an EDW or data marts and using complex analytics and reporting. Analytic applications in an EDW environment allow businesses increased visibility including better forecasting and running what-if scenarios. Companies are not only asking "what happened?", they are asking "why did that happen?".
Getting the most out of your EDW investment requires the business knowledge and the technical expertise to implement the requirements.

System Decommissioning
Systems change. Each year we're faced with an array of new technologies promising more features, easy change and massive cost-savings if we replace our installed applications. In addition to the daily cost of running old applications, existing software applications must be patched regularly and upgraded every 18 - 24 months. Software upgrades typically impact the underlying hardware, forcing hardware upgrades as well.
Hardware and software cost-savings are not the only reasons to replace old systems. The technical considerations are minor compared to the impact of business change and regulation:
- Business must improve or lose to the competition.
- New regulations sometimes mandate radical upgrades to existing capabilities.
- Mergers and acquisitions bring together many different systems that serve the same purpose.
- Divestitures and joint ventures change the business and technical requirements.
Yet, companies very rarely decommission systems. Poorly designed implementation strategies as well as corporate 'cultural' considerations make it difficult to finally sever the tie to the old system. The end result from many new software implementations is simply one more system to maintain, adding to your IT costs rather than reducing them. The old systems simply become feeders for the new system.
This common practice of 'let them die on the vine' is an expensive, wasteful option that consumes resources while adding nothing except the false assumption that 'at least we didn't lose the data'.
To solve this complex issue, Datric developed tools and methodologies that:
- Achieve certified, systems-off decommissioning
- Insure cost savings
- Provide for application-neutral data retention and use
- Insure regulatory compliance, audit trails and traceability
- Offer phased, practical approach options
- Integrate with business and technical strategic plans
For systems replacement, conversions, data mart or data warehouse consolidations, system retirement and decommissioning, we have the people and tools to save you money today.
