Overview of EDI and B2B
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) - What is it?
EDI is a way of doing business electronically with your business trading partners - customers, suppliers, banks, and transportation carriers. EDI builds upon proven and industry standards to send and receive business documents efficiently and quickly.
For simplicity the term EDI is used to describe electronic business communication but in reality when we refer to EDI it is a generic term that includes traditional EDI, web-based forms, XML, RosettaNet, flat-file transfers, spreadsheets, and other miscellaneous formats. What is important is that you are doing business your way internally but with the added capability of electronically exchanging business documents with your trading partners. Manual intervention and re-keying is eliminated; documents are computer-to-computer.
